This course provides balanced training to equip Christians to function helpfully in counselling roles under supervision/oversight in church and other settings.
It is Christian in orientation, but also provides a sound understanding of secular approaches to counselling.
The course includes a number of foundational theological modules, and considers various approaches to counselling and counselling practices in specific situations. Students learn to integrate biblical and psychological principles, to use practical counselling skills and to help clients work through problem issues.

This course enables students to develop a personal framework for counselling through study of the Scriptures and critical study of various counselling models. It provides an excellent grounding in the theory and practice of counselling.
On successful completion of the course, students will be ready to enter supervised training positions in preparation for professional counselling vocations or graduate courses in a variety of other professional areas.
The course addresses many theological and biblical topics, and various counselling theories and their practical applications, and includes practical counselling field experience.
Students learn to explore and integrate biblical and psychological principles, to use practical counselling skills, to help clients work through problem issues and to think critically.
While some of the modules in this course are similar to those in the Diploma in Counselling Studies, all are studied at greater depth.
Tabor College recommends that those wishing to practice professional counseling supplement this course with further supervised practical experience, such as that offered in the Tabor College Graduate Diploma in Counselling, so that graduates can develop a high level of expertise in professional counselling.

A range of Graduate Certificates in Counselling can be obtained by the successful completion of 24 of the 48 credit points in the Graduate Diploma in Counselling. These may include various selections of modules, suited to students’ professional development needs. The modules will normally include either Counselling Practicum, or Counselling Skills 1 and Counselling Skills 2.
The Graduate Certificate option is suitable for individuals in various ministry and professional roles that include a counselling component.

This one-year course prepares students for professional counselling careers, and emphasises the development of professional and practical counselling skills in a closely supervised environment.
Graduates of the course will be able to work as professional counsellors, in a wide range of settings, both Christian and secular, and/or to provide competent counselling in various vocational settings.
Students work with individuals, families and groups, under well-qualified and experienced supervisors. Practical experience is enriched by seminars, case conferences and studies on professional issues.
